A Plan to Prepare Today and Protect Tomorrow
Richard King’s priorities for the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office are built on training, accountability, today’s best practices, and strong partnerships with the community.
Professional Development and Training
- Implement ongoing professional development and leadership training for all deputies so they are prepared for tomorrow’s challenges.
- Provide practical, scenario based training that improves decision making and officer safety.
- Support special skills training in areas such as investigations, crisis response, and traffic safety.
Higher Standards and Accountability
- Establish higher hiring and promotion standards that focus on character, competence, and community mindedness.
- Foster a culture where deputies are respected, supported, and held to the highest ethical and performance standards.
- Promote transparency in policies and procedures so citizens know what to expect from their Sheriff’s Office.
Fiscal Responsibility
- Operate the department within budget and use resources wisely, keeping taxpayer dollars focused on public safety.
- Work with the County Commission to modernize tools and tactics where it makes sense.
- Deliver a long range budget plan covering three to five years and review it with the County Commission each year.
Community Engagement and Trust
- Develop a community engagement program that brings deputies and citizens together in neighborhoods, schools, churches, and local events.
- Hold regular community meetings across the county to encourage open communication and give citizens a comfortable place to ask questions and share concerns.
- Build long term partnerships that help prevent crime and support communities across Henderson County.
